Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe we are into November with only a few weeks left until Thanksgiving. We have been getting ready in our classroom by learning about the first Thanksgiving through books, songs and fingerplays. We have also replaced our pumpkins with turkey's flying around the room. The children painted feathers and cut them out. They painted a brown paper plate for the body and colored the head. In addition to our turkeys we were also in charge of decorating the bulletin board across from Mrs. Kuhn's office. Take notice of the giant feathers crafted by your preschooler!
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful. Today, people celebrate Thanksgiving by having a big dinner with family and friends. Turkey and vegetables are usually served because that is what the Pilgrims and Native American Indians ate at the first Thanksgiving feast.
We've been learning how the Native Americans helped the pilgrims hunt for food, plant seeds for crops and make their own clothing and jewelry. Different Indian tribes were known for the many beautiful things they made. The children will be stringing their own Indian necklaces with colored macaroni and wooden beads! They will also be weaving their own placemat to be used at our Thanksgiving feast.
Please Note: Our Thanksgiving Feast will be held on Tuesday, November 24th. There will be more details to follow!
Thank you for sharing your children with us!
