Mrs. Pope's 4's

Dear Parents,

We have been busy learning about the different holidays people celebrate in December.  We have introduced various symbols associated with each holiday.  Christmas trees, stockings and wreaths are symbols of Christmas,  the menorah and the dreidel are symbols of Hanukkah,  pinatas  and parades are part of Las Posadas celebrated by Mexican Americans.  We have also learned why we celebrate each holiday through books and songs.  All of the holidays have many things in common.  We spend them with family and friends, eating alot of good food.  We often think of Christmas cookies and the traditions our families have sharing and baking with Grandma in the kitchen.  On Thursday, April Hutcheson (Jessica's Mom) will be in to share with us her famous latkes.  A traditional food eaten during Hanukkah.

In our classroom we have been busy making various crafts for holiday gift giving!  Therefore, we are keeping them a surprise until then.  I do need a wallet size picture of your child (alone or with family) to complete one of our projects. Please get that to me ASAP.  Thank-you!

Wednesday, December 16th is Our Christmas Show!  There is a sign-up sheet posted outside our classroom.  Keep in mind that there will be approx. 60 people.  Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, siblings are all invited.  Please bring your donations at the beginning of class.  Our party Moms will be setting-up the refreshments before the show!  We will begin our show @ 10:30 in Fellowship Hall (by the stage).  We will then adjourn to the back of fellowship hall for holiday cheer and refreshments.

What a busy and exciting time of year.  Holiday songs are heard, lights and candles are glowing, and Santa is in the thoughts and sentences of the children.  In all the excitement, whatever holiday we celebrate, we all stop to remember the importance of giving and sharing with others.

Thank-you for sharing your children with us!
