May-June Newsletter-Grade 1

Wow!   It’s hard to believe that May is here.  We are finishing the last reading book in our current series.   Now the children will be busy polishing their skills.  They’ll enjoy reading the stories in past readers.   We hope that you will encourage your children to continue reading over the summer.   Comprehension and fluency increase with practice.

It has been a wonderful and exciting year for all of us.  The children have come so far and have accomplished so much.  They have done a terrific job mastering the sight words and all of the vowel sounds.  It’s amazing to see how quickly they fly through the fact sheets in math.  Many sounds of delight can be heard as they spot quotation marks in the stories they are reading. We are very proud of all of them.

The first graders are looking forward to many exciting events this month.   First, our family luncheon is on Wednesday, May 13, where we hope to showcase our best manners. On May 20th we will be going to the Sea Wolves Game and on May 21 st after the Ascension Thursday Mass, we will be walking to the Erie Playhouse to see “Anne of Green Gables”.

We are going to miss our eighth grade friends.  We have many fond memories of our special times together.  We thank them for the wonderful books they made for us and all they did for us this year. We wish them well as they go on to high school.

Finally, we would like to thank all of you for your help and support throughout the year.  We could not have done it without you!  Many of you have sent in treats, accompanied us on field trips, helped with parties, and were there in so many other ways.  Thank you!  It has been a pleasure working with your children.  We hope you and your family have a good end of the school year, as well as a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
