Programs small medium large Fourth girl's group meet daily in the guidance room, and we talk/discuss many girl's topics that they are facing such as self-esteem, girl bullying, being a bystander, gossip/rumor starting, cliques/social groups, phoney balonies, and other social body language. Friendship Groups are a fun way for kids in the same grade level to make new friends and practice social skills in a safe, small group setting. Children are invited to participate in friendship groups for a variety of reasons. We usually meet over the child's lunch time Classroom Guidance Lessons Within the guidance curriculum, six to eight lessons are presented each school year at every grade level k-5th. Topics for these lessons address the following program components: self-knowledge and acceptance interpersonal relationships decision-making school success character traits friendship making skills and bullying/teasing prevention The guidance lesson meets with all kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms one time a month to complete lessons on these various topics. This year the guidance lessons are going to incorporate the "Don't Laugh At Me" curriculum for grades 2nd-5th. Letters have gone home to classrooms that are incorporating guidance lessons in their school day. TERRIFIC KIDS PROGRAM is taking the place of Character Council this year. This is a character building program. each month two kids will be nominated from their homeroom to be TERRIFIC KIDS for the month. The program will begin in October and run through June of 2013. TERRIFIC KIDS is an acronym for T-Thoughtful, E-Enthusiastic, R-Responsbile, R-Respectful, I-Inquisitive, F-Friendly, I-Inclusive, and C-Capable. As a terrific kid for the month, each student will receive a certificate, a picture that will be placed in the Dallas Post as a group, and an individual picture placed on "spotlight" up in the front of the school office. Every month our group of TERRIFIC KIDS from Dallas Elementary School will work together a few times that month on a couple of community-wide or school-wide programs. At the end of the school year, I will draw student's names for gift certificates prizes from local bookstores. I am excited to have something new happeneding at Dallas Elementary School which incorporates a large number of children getting involved with leadership skills and character building. If anybody has any ideas for utilizing character for our community or school, please forward these ideas to me. Peer Helping Mr. Harley and I have begin training for peer helping. We are utilizing students to help other younger students in the building with such things as organization, behavior, academic skills, or just "buddy-building." Mr. Harley and I are excited about using students to help one another to build better classroom behavior and success. Social Skills Small Groups I will beginning in the next month social skills small groups for students that can utilize a little "extra practice" with skills such a listening, following directions, anger management, interrupting, ignoring distractions, and identifying feelings. Entrance to the group will be based on teacher recommendations and parent permission. Automatically clean input to optimize for the web.
