I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from
Bloomsburg. I was employed by the Wyoming Area School District for
five years in the Title I Reading Program. While teaching there I received
my Reading Specialist Certificate from Marywood University. I began
working for the Dallas School District in 1978 and earned my Master's
Degree in Reading from Marywood University in 1981. I am a graduate
of the Dallas School District. My two children graduated from Dallas.
My son, Don, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Forest Science from Penn
State University and a second degree in Finance from Florida State
University. He is a financial advisor for Edward Jones in
Tallahassee, Florida. My daughter, Beth, earned a Bachelor's Degree in
Special Education from Penn State University. She graduated a semester early
and was employed before graduation by the Howard County School District in
Maryland. She now is a teacher in the Carroll County School
District which is closer to her home. She earned a
Master's Degree in Reading at Johns Hopkins University. My
husband, Pastor Don, is the pastor of the Welsh Baptist Church in Wilkes-
Barre. He attended Abington Heights High School and graduated from Wyoming
Area. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from Bloomsburg and his
Master's Degree in Theology from Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia. We have
two hounddogs, Snickers and Wiggles. They can shake hands and lie down and
give lots of kisses. I became a grandmother in July,2004 when Juilianna was
born. Then in 2006 I was blessed with another granddaughter, Faith Ann.
March 2009 brought my first grandson, Jackson. My son and his wife will have
their first child in November. My grandbabies are definitely "the apple of
my eye" and you can see their pictures on my door. Keep the ooos and awwwws
at a low volume please!
My mission for my students is to assist them in improving their
phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, word attack skills,
vocabulary, oral reading fluency, and comprehension and become
better readers.
