Accounting I is an 18-week full credit course, which covers the entire basic accounting cycle as a sole proprietorship and as a corporation. This course may be applied as a math credit for seniors or as an elective. FOR HOMEWORK PLEASE REFER TO HOMEWORK ICON ON HOMEPAGE. Accounting is highly recommended for college bound students majoring in any area of business. We cover in detail many aspects of accounting that time does not allow within the framework of a college accounting course. Students with a high school accounting background have a greater sense of comprehension when taking college accounting. Accounting offers all students an opportunity for development of organizational and budgeting skills. The nightly homework assignment is for all accounting students to read chapters, review notes and learn accounting vocabulary. Accounting is referred to as the "language of business." Requirements for the course include an up-to-date notebook, which will be collected and graded and applied as one test grade. Students must come to class prepared, which means textbook, workbook, notebook and pencil with a good eraser. Calculators are recommended, however, classroom calculators can be assigned for room only use if the students so desires. Students are not allowed to copy assignments. Regular classroom attendance is recommended as accounting information is cumulative and continual absences will interfere with sequential skill building. If a student is absent tutorial are required. Any work, including tests, must must be made up within one week or a zero grade will be issued. Promethean Board will be used to introduce lessons and concepts. With one year of high school accounting, a student can obtain a job in a related accounting/bookkeeping field. Accountants (CPA's) salaries can double within five years of employment and the job opportunities are abundant. I hope your (your child's) Accounting experience is an enjoyable one. GRADES: Grades are determined by test score averages. Total daily points are included as one test grade at the end of each quarter. Notebook is collected and recorded as a test score at the end of the course. (Notebook must be neat, organized and have all necessary information) FOR HOMEWORK PLEASE REFER TO HOMEWORK ICON ON HOMEPAGE.
