Objective:
To develop freedom and flexibility in the use of the voice, cultivate
listening skills, enhance music literacy, and expand vocal technique,
through learning and performing works by composers of various eras and
styles.

Required Materials:
  • Music folder containing music, handouts, syllabus, and assignments.
  • Pencil
Holiday Concert Attire: Women: White shirt/blouse and black pants/skirt with black shoes. Men: White shirt with a tie and black pants with black shoes. **Students who do not come properly dressed will NOT be permitted to participate in the concert which will result in a failing grade for the quarter. Purchase of Music: Students are required to turn in either cash or a check for $15.00 made payable to “The Dallas High School Chorus Fund” within the first week of school to cover the cost of their choral music. A check must be turned in or the student will be removed from the chorus. Checks will be refunded when the student turns in all of their music in good condition at the end of each semester. Students are responsible for the care of their music. Grading: 1. Participation is the majority of the student’s grade and will be determined by the following:
  • Arrival to class on time with the required materials and in your seat ready to start.
  • Demonstration of preparedness with the musical material by singing with the full chorus, singing in small groups, and singing individually.
  • Overall effort, contribution to the group, and positive behavior and attitude.
  • Music/folder checks
  • Following class policies.
  • Attendance at required concerts.
2. Written assignments and exams Policies:
  • Concert attendance is mandatory. Failure to perform at a concert will result in a failing grade for the quarter. An “Act of God” (death in the family, serious illness, written doctor’s excuse) is the only acceptable excuse for missing a concert.
  • There will be absolutely NO cell phones, ipods, mp3 players, cameras, or other electronic devices allowed in the class at any time. These items will be confiscated and will remain in the possession of school officials until claimed by the parent or guardian or until the final day of school. Any student who fails to comply with the teacher’s request to turn in such a device will be subject to the insubordination provision of the school’s discipline policy. Having any of these items will also negatively affect your participation grade.
  • NO food, gum, or drinks (except bottled water) are permitted in the auditorium.
  • Each student is expected to be in his/her seat with the required materials and ready to start immediately after the bell rings.
  • Students are expected to remain in the rehearsal for the whole period: please take care of personal needs before rehearsal.
  • Students will leave their backpacks and other belongings in a designated area during class time. It is wise not to bring valuable items to class. Bring ONLY the required materials to your seat.
  • Students will be assigned a designated area and seat to sit in and must remain there at all times unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.
  • Students will contribute to a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning by treating everyone and everything with respect. Teasing, taunting, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. No foul language. Students will demonstrate positive behavior and attitude.
  • Students will refrain from talking or causing other disruptions during rehearsal.
  • Students who are ill, but are in school, are not excused from rehearsal. Such students are expected to follow along in their music for the duration of the rehearsal. If you are too sick to participate in chorus, you are too sick to be at school.
Make-up/Absentee: Multiple absences will affect the student’s grade through participation and loss of instruction. It is very important to be in class and actively participate. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain all announcements/work which has been missed due to absence from class for any reason. This may mean that the student will need to come for tutoring during flex. Mark Your Calendar….
