Science Olympiad

Thursday 11-12 We had our first Science Olympiad (SO) meeting on
Tuesday from 3-5pm. We discussed the 22 events that make the SO. Any
student that missed the first meeting can get a description of the
events here : http://soinc.org/short_event_descriptions (We are
division B) Students took brief notes about each event. Students
were given an assignement that needs to be completed for our next
meeting which will be Tuesday 11-19 from 3-5pm.
  Students must do the following:

-Pick 5 of the 22 events that you are interested in.
    - Obtain one information sheet about one of the five events. I
       have these information sheets.
    - Research some portion of the that event. Print out a minimum
of 3 pages that are helpful in learning about that event.

Bring all three of these to our next meeting which will be Tuesday
11/19.

Tuesday December 8 All students were informed that the team would be
announced on the Wednesday before Christmas Break. We reminded
students that they need to be working on events during time at home
and during study halls. Many students have taken this advise and
have made themselves very valuable to the team. Students that do not
demonstrate the desire to make this commitment will not make the
team. Only 15 students will make the team.
Students have been instructed to make a Science Olympiad folder for
our next practice. Many studnets have already completed this task.
Students should have four events that they are gathering information
for. The information should be oragnized into the notebooks. SSome
students have not chosen four events at this time. They need to
chose events. We reviewed the list of students and which events they
are interested in on Tuesday. Students were informed as to which
events need more involvement.
It is our hope that students will come to the next practice with
this notebook and have it divided into four sections. Each section
will posses materials that will help students become experts in tthat
event.
