Welcome to Dallas Middle School! In this school term, 2013-2014, for the
first quarter the sixth grade students will have Study Skills, the seventh
grade students will have Money Matters, and the eighth grade classes will
have Career Awareness.
Study Skills helps the sixth grade student with some skills to be a
successful student at Dallas Middle School. From organizing their lockers to
following directions and taking tests, skill activities will help the sixth
grade adapt to this new school setting.
In the Money Matters class seventh grade students will participate in the
Finance Park program sponsored by Junior Achievement to learn about basic
finances which will culminate with a visit to Finance Park as they practice
their skills in all aspects of managing a budget of family expenses.
The eighth grade will explore what they want for their future career as they
identify their values, interests, skills, and desires. A career survey will
help them to determine what careers might suit them best. They will do some
research to learn about careers that interest them.
Beginning with the second quarter, the Family & Consumer Sciences classes
will be back in the kitchen. After a successful year of sewing our study
returns to foods and nutrition. The sixth and seventh grades will be
introduced to basic nutrition, food safety, learn how to measure correctly
and follow a recipe, and participate in a few simple food preparations. The
eighth grade will review what they learned in sixth grade and then continue
to learn how they might make better food choices. They will also practice
their food preparation skills.
