I teach all of the Family & Consumer Science classes and therefore
teach almost every child in the Dallas Middle School at least once each
year. First quarter I also teach Study Skills to a third of the 6th grade,
Money Matters to a third of the 7th grade, and Career Awareness to a third
of the 8th grade.
This will be my eleventh year at Dallas Middle School. Before this
assignment I taught at Dallas High School for fourteen years. My frequent
mantra is "Every day the thing to do is learn a little something new" which
is why "Googling" is a new favorite thing. A new challenge in this
everychanging world of technology is the introduction of a Promethean board
in the FCS room #101. This will keep me busy, but will hopefully be quite
engaging to all.
I also provide the costumes for the high school drama productions. I have
been the Assistant Drama Coach for twenty-one years. I have also costumed
plays for Misericordia University. I enjoy theater and music. I also spend
a lot of time sewing and gardening. During the summer I enjoy getting lost in
a good mystery book. A weakness is chocolate. Dark, of course!
The mission of the Family & Consumer Science classes this year is to teach
each student basic handsewing and machine sewing skills. As students learn
to sew it is hoped that they realize the importance of sewing in their
lives. Having the ability to repair and adjust clothes is an important
independent living skill that all students should have. Those students with
a creative flair will hopefully continue to sew beyond the classroom.
