All grades at Dallas Middles School will have swimming. Grade 6 and 8 will
receive swimming as a part of their wellness classes. Students in grade 7 will
receive swimming for half a year.
Students in grade 3 will be advised by their classroom teacher when to be
prepared for swimming.
Students will be advised as to when they will need to be prepared and dates
will be posted on the calendar of my web page, as well as placed in the dally
announcements at at school. Stay tuned and don't put away that swim suit!

1. All students need to be prepared for each class. Students are required
to change for physical education. T-Shirt, shorts, sweat pants are
acceptable. Sneakers are mandatory. Be prepared to go outdoors when weather
permits.Change quickly and quietly. Line up when ready.
2. All jewelry must be removed.
3. It is strongly recommended that students bring a combination lock to
secure their belongings and valuables. Students may use the locker for
the class period and must remove the lock and bring it with them each time.
4. Students are not to enter the gym without permission.
5. Students are not to touch any equipment without permission.
6. Students are expected use equipment properly. Students found damaging
equipment will be expected to pay for the damages.
7. Students are graded on preparation for class and class participation.
8. Possible points for each class of 10 out 10. Students not participating
or not prepared will lose points for that class.
9. Students may only be excused from class by providing a note from parent
or guardian, medical excuse from a doctor , or be excused by the school

7th Grade Swimming
Course Description: Swimming and Water Safety meets 2 out of 6 days for 1
semester. The students will participate in a variety of activities including
stroke development, aquatic fitness, aquatic games, personal safety, rescue
skills and present a Water Safety Project. During this course students will
develop basic water skills and the ability to demonstrate the necessary
skills to be safe in, on and around the water.
The responsibilities for the class are outlined on the attached page.
Please note bathing suits must be school appropriate (no string
bikinis). If a bathing suit appears to be inappropriate a T-Shirt must be

Grading Policy: Students are graded on class participation, assessment on
basic aquatic skills, tests, quizzes and a water safety project. Students can
earn a possible 10 points for each class. Students who are unprepared for
class receive a zero and are provided with a written assignment based on the
day’s class objective. Students providing a note to be excused will also be
given a written assignment and will have the opportunity to earn points on

Please read the following information carefully. Remember to sign
and return the bottom portion of the previous page.
1.I agree to follow ALL class rules ALL the time.
•No running on the pool deck
•NEVER go under water without permission
•While waiting your turn or listening to instructions ALWAYS keep one hand on
•No diving unless regulated by the teacher.
•Only enter the pool area when there is a teacher present.
•Only enter the water when you have permission, by sliding into the pool.
•Shower before class to remove any hair products such as gel or hairspray.
•NO GUM CHEWING PERMITTED
2.I agree to be prepared for class every day. Being prepared includes:
