Dear Parents,
Reading: We are reading "Mr Putter and Tabby Fly a Plane" this week. The vocabulary words that go with the story are: cranes, directions, promise, twitch, and worry. The skills we are focusing on are Predicting Outcomes and Abbreviations. We begin reading class with Daily Language Review. This gives your child practice with English skills. We then correct them together.
We are practicing spelling the first grade sight words. The words your child missed will be sent home for you to practice with your child.
Spelling: Your child has had fifteen words each week for the spelling test: ten words that go along with our phonics pattern and five sight words. I will begin giving your child twenty spelling words, the fifteen as we usually do and five review sight words that your child has already had. They are the last five words on the spelling lists in the agenda book. I will randomly pick five words each week.
Math: We are working in Chapter 3 on Place Value to 100 and Money. We begin math class with Daily Math. This gives the children practice with different math skills. We correct them together in class. We also do a timed test on math facts three times a week. Please practice the addition and subtraction facts at home.
Writing: We have finished reviewing all of our letters in slant print and will now begin writing animal poems. These poems will be made into a book to be taken home when finished.
Social Studies: We are finishing up Unit One and will be testing on Wednesday. A study guide will be coming home on Monday.
If you ever have any questions please don't hesitate to call or e-mail.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Betsy Wildauer
