Dear Students/Parents/Guardians,
I would like to introduce myself and say how excided I am to be
working with your child at Fred S. Engle Middle School this year. My name is
Mrs. Staherski and I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Arts Cycle-Music,
Choir and Avon Grove singers.
In 7th Grade General Music, all lessons are accompanied with musical
experience. Students study rhythmic and motivic structure, guitar, chord
progressions, harmonic properties, and music history (Romantic and
Impressionism). Grades are based on weekly quizzes, compositions, and musical
performance (75%). Students are also graded on notebook checks and
participation (25%).
In 8th Grade General Music, all lessons are accompanied with musical
experience. Students study compound meter, compound complex meter, guitar,
chord progressions, harmonic properties, and music history (Jazz,
Nationalism, Minimalism, and 20th century popular music). Grades are based
on weekly quizzes, compositions, and musical performance (75%). Students are
also graded on notebook checks and participation (25%).
There are two Choral ensembles:
1.Middle School Choir (an open ensemble to any student)
2.Avon Grove Singers (open to all students by audition only)
Rehearsals:
1.Middle School Choir Students are REQUIRED to attend rehearsals:
a.8th period on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Audion
2.Avon Grove Singers are REQUIRED to attend rehearsals:
a.8th last period on Monday and Thursday
3.After school rehearsal may occur due to missing rehearsal or snow days
however they will be announced
