MATH:

Students will be working in their books as well as their workbooks, so ask
them to see their work. They will also be doing daily work in their
journals which can help them with their tests and everyday work.
Ask your child what they've been doing in class. Check their assignment
notebooks and look in their Friday Folders!

Remediation: If your child receives below a 70% on a Chapter Test, they
will have the opportunity to stay after school for help. If they stay both
of the assigned days, they will be able to re-take the test and change their
grade. When the tests are sent home, look for a bright, yellow paper
attached telling when the after-school days will be!

Daily/Weekly Math Assignments or Activities:

Get the Goof/Mental Math...Students will be given problems at the beginning
of each class (either review from the previous day or concepts being covered
on that day). They will be required to write down each problem in their
journal and answer it. At the end of the alloted time, students will be
chosen to go to the board and explain how they arrived at their answer.

Journal...Each student will be required to keep a journal (one that they are
given by me)to write down, Get the Goof, and any notes or vocabulary given
in class. At the end of each week, these journals will be collected and
graded. If all of the requirements are met and the journal is handed in on
time, they will receive a (+) for that week. If not, they will receive a (-
). At the end of the six weeks, they will be given a grade for their
journal based on the number of (+)'s they received. This is a very EASY way
to get a 100%.

Independent Assignment Completion...Students will be graded on many of their
independent assignments. Those that are not "officially" graded will count
toward an independent assignment completion grade. This grade is just
that...if their assignment is done (not necessarily correct), they will be
given a (+) for that assignment. If it is incomplete, they will be given a
(-). The same procedure for the journal grade above will be used for a
independent assignment completion grade as well.

If you feel that your child needs extra help, please let me know. I am in
school until 3:00 every day and would be more than willing to help any
student. Just let me know!

Again, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me
at school!
