How was my child selected for READING INTERVENTION classes?
Your child was selected through a multiple screening process, beginning with the DIBELS assessment, whereby kindergarten has letter naming and initial sound fluency components and first grade has letter naming, phoneme segmentation fluency and nonsense word fluency components. Teacher referrals are also taken into consideration, if needed. During January, the DIBELS assessment is administered again, whereby kindergarten has 4 components: letter naming, initial sound fluency, phoneme segmentation and nonsense word fluency. First grade has phoneme segmentation, nonsense word fluency and oral reading fluency. Finally in May, the DIBELS is administered once again to check the student's progress, this time kindergarten is assessed in letter naming, phoneme segmentation and nonsense word fluency; first grade is assessed in phoneme segmentation, nonsense word fluency and oral reading fluency.Back to Top
