Fourth Quarter April 23 - June The students are now working in their literature circles. Unless a student is absent, there will not be any homework. A test will be given after each novel is completed. April 11, 2012 Students should begin studying their vocabulary words for "Amigo Brothers". The test will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. It will cover both vocabulary and comprehension. Third Quarter: March 21, 2012 Extra Credit was given to students on Monday. It involves advertising and propaganda andis due on or before March 28th. The last test of the Third Quarter is on Tuesday, March 27th. It will be on Figurative Language. Students should be studying their Coach book and notebook to prepare for this test. March 6, 2012 "Buddha on Wheels" Figurative language worksheet. March 5, 2012 Complete the "Water Picture" poem packet including the open ended. February 21, 2012 Meaningful Metaphors worksheet and Oranges poem. February 16, 2011 Open ended response page 16 of Coach. February 8 Reading Test tomorrow (see below). Also, periods 4,5,and 6 have the diary entry and theme homework paper. February,7, 2012 Periods 1,2,and 3 "The Bracelet" complete diary entry and theme of the story. Test on Thursday includes the 7 vocabulary words and main idea/supporting detail. January 30,2012 "Loving Chimps to Death" editorial. January 24, 2012 Homework: Complete "Cell Phone" editorial packet. Test will be on Thursday. Topics include viewpoints, generalizations, author's purpose, and arguments. January 17, 2011 Homework: Packet on Author's Purpose. Short quiz tomorrow on Fact/opinion and identifying authors purpose. The test willl be next week. January 11,2012 Homework: Coach book pages 79 - 82. January 10, 2012 Homework: Worksheet (newspaper article) on Generalizations. There may be a test next week on fact/opinion, viewpoints, generalizations and author's purpose. Januaary 9, 2012 Students have had 3 tests for this marking period. The grades are on skyward and they are also in the back of each student's notebook. Notebooks will be collected and scored this week or next depending on your child's section. December 19,2011 The Reading test will be given tomorrow. (See below) December 9, 2011 The next reading test will cover story elements. This includes setting characters, plot - conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution, and theme. The test is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19th. December 2, 20111 Students have a writing assignment that goes with their story "The Fun They Had". 11/18/11 Reading test Tuesday on compare and contrast including the vocabulary words from The Fun They Had. 11/1/11 Vocabulary worksheet. Test will be on Friday. 10/18-21/11 compare/contrast essay due on Friday. 10/17/11 A two paragraph compare/contrast essay is due on Friday, 10/21/11. Students have already completed the graphic organizer in class. 10/11/2011 First Person Point of View worksheet. Test on Thursday includes vocabulary words, point of view, irony, idioms, and "Break a Leg". 10/5/11 Vocabulary crossword puzzle. Learn the meaning of the vocabulary words. 10/3/11 Homework worksheet on idioms. 9/21/11 Homework is to complete both the front and back of the worksheet on Context Clues. Test is on Friday. 9/16/2011 The first Reading Test will be on Friday, Sept. 23rd. The skills addressed on the test include using context clues and comprehending a a short story. 9/15/2011 Complete Reading Smarter "Context Clues" 9/7/11 Student must complete their "good" copy of their poem. 9/6/11 Students need to complete the rough draft of their autobiographical poem using "The Abandoned Farmhouse" as a model. Students have examples that we completed in class along with their graphic organizer to help them. Students will need a notebook exclusively for Reading- no other subjects may be included in this notebook. I prefer a composition style notebook. Also, students must always have a working pen with them. In addition, many students find it helpful to have a folder and a highlighter.
