About The Teacher
I am married to my husband, Mike, for 27 years. We have two daughters, Ashley, age 26 , and Leigh Anne, age 24. Ashley graduated from GNA in 2001 and graduated from King's College with a degree in business administration in May 2005. She attended the Academy of Creative Hair Design and is employed at Age of Innocence in Dallas. Leigh graduated from GNA in 2003. She earned her biology degree at King's College in 2007. Leigh Anne is attending the Temple University School of Dentistry. I decided to become a speech-language pathologist when I was in tenth grade after my grandfather had a stroke. His difficulty communicating was most disabling. I graduated from GNA in 1976. I attended Bloomsburg University majoring in speech-language pathology. I graduated with my BS in 1979 and with my MS in 1980. I currently have 60 credits beyond my masters degreee in the field of education. I am certified by the PA Department of Education in speech therapy. I am licensed to provide speech & language services by the PA Bureau of Professioal and Occupational Affairs. I earned my Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech & Language Pathology from the American Speech & Hearing Association in 1981 and maintained it for 28 years. Most recently, I earned my certification as a Reading Specialist from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. I was employed as a speech-language pathologist at Allied Services Rehabilitation Center in Scranton until 1982 when I was promoted to be the Director of Speech Pathology & Audiology at the Allied Services John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in Wilkes-Barre. I also operated a private practice in speech and language therapy. My employment at the GNA School District began in 1991. I am an adjunct professor at Misericordia University in their Master's Speech-Language Pathology Program. I provide PRN speech and language services with Global Health Services to the patients at the Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nanticoke, PA and with Rehab Care at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dallas, PA. In addition to my work in speech and language, I am the editor of our elementary school newspaper, the K-L Flier. I coordinate the Volunteer Program, advise the safety patrol and bus brigade, and am a member of the Reading First Leadership Team.
