The month of December has begun and we are off and running in Pre-K. We are just like Santa's workshop, making decorations for our classroom and hallway. The Rudolphs are finished. They will hang in the hallway. Be sure to check them out. Their bright red noses make everyone smile! Our family tree will be complete soon. Thank you for your beautiful decorated hands. The children love finding each family member on the tree as they go by each day.
Each morning at circle time, we light our Advent candle and remember that we are getting ready for the birthday of Jesus. We focus on how we can have Jesus come into our hearts with kind words and deeds. Each child gives an example of what they will do at home or in school. Many students are saying they will help Mom and Dad, not fight with their brothers or sisters or just be better listeners. It is great to keep them focused on giving to others during this special season. Our Religion lessons will be about those who waited for Jesus to be born. They love hearing stories about Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth and the first Christmas.
We continue to learn about our senses. We are doing some taste and smell experiments to see what we like and don't like and to see how our senses help us. It is fun to watch the faces on the students as they taste sour, sweet, bitter and salty things. They are learning how taste buds work on our tongues.
December is a short and busy month so we will work on mastering our mystery letters up to and including Nn. Our math lessons will involve measuring and counting. Opposites have been introduced. Our learning centers are all about Christmas!
The Christmas show will be on December 16th. The students will perform in the afternoon and evening shows. Mrs. K will let you know the dress for that day. No costumes need to be purchased. Half day students will come in the afternoon because it is a long day for them. Schedules for full day students will remain the same. They will come dressed for the show in the afternoon and again in the evening. It is a fun and exciting day because they get to sing for their families. The last day before our Christmas vacation we will have a little birthday celebration for Baby Jesus. No snack will be needed on that day.
The weeks will go quickly and the excitment will mount as we wait for Christmas. Thank you for all you do each day to prepare your child for school. They are growing each day and we love sharing this time of year with them.
May you and your families have a Merry Christmas and a healthy and blessed New Year.
