Song of the week! Each week, the students at Hillsdale listen to a new "Song of the week" at the beginning of each music class. The songs that are played are songs that I believe the children will come across again sometime in their lifetime. It could be a week from now or a year from now, but most of these songs I tell the students that they will probably hear again someday. The songs are from all walks of life and many different styles. They may hear these songs in TV commercials, shows, movies, ipods, museums, weddings, stores, etc. The goal of "Song of the week" is to expose kids to music in the real world, to teach them what it is called and who wrote it, to have them learn a fact or two about the song or composer, and most importantly... to learn to LISTEN and focus on the music and nothing else. Some of the questions I ask the children are... Have you heard this before? Where? What kind of instruments did you hear? Can you guess the style of music? and many more. So here it is... the song of the week for the 2007-2008 school year 2. Week of Sept 15-19... "The Flight of the Bumbebee" by N. Rimsky-Korsakov 3. Week of Sept 22-26...
