All students must be in the school hall and seated every morning by 8:10am. If you are late, you must go to the office and sign in the Student Lateness Book. When parents are dropping off their children in the morning, please follow the car line. PLEASE do not get out of your car in the middle of the car line. If you need to walk your child into the building please park along the blue fence. If your child is absent, please call the school to notify your child's teacher. An absentee note is required upon the student's return to school.

Late Arrival

Everyone should be aware of the process of entering the parking lot and the school in the morning.  Please note that once the students' entrance door has been closed, students who are just arriving are considered late.  Mrs. Meyers will check to see that the parking lot line of cars have all dropped off their students and then she will close and lock the door.  Students will then have to come to the main entrance, ring the bell and then proceed to the main office to sign in and receive a late pass.  All students MUST adhere to this rule.

Important Telephone Numbers Concerning School Bus Issues

Parents, please note that if your child's school bus does not arrive on time please do not call the school.  We have no control over bus situations!  Here are the numbers that you should call:  The School District of Philadelphia Transportation Division:215-400-5288 and Durham Bus Company: 215-535-7300.  Please be sure to have your child at the bus stop 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.  If the bus does not arrive by 10 minutes after the scheduled pickup time, please call the district first and then the bus company.  Again, Holy Spirit School does not have any control over any bus situations.

Important Reminder Regarding Illness

Parents/guardians, please be aware that if your child is sick, please let him or her stay home. If a child has a fever, he or she MUST be kept at home! Students MAY NOT return to school until they have been fever free (without the use of Tylenol) for 24 hours. For everyone's safety, please adhere to this rule! Remember that a child who is sent back to school too soon only runs the risk of reinfection, as well as passing it on to others.

Winter School Uniforms

Please be aware that students in grades K-8 are now to be wearing the winter school uniform. This uniform is in effect from November 1 until April 15. Please see the dress code list under "forms/calendars/newsletter" to be sure that your child is in proper uniform. Remember that Holy Spirit has some gently used uniforms available. Please call the school office to arrange a time to come in and take a look!
Please adhere to all dress code rules! Remember that cosmetics or nail polish may NOT be worn at any time. No artificial nails or nail tips are permitted. No fad hairstyles or haircuts may be worn by boys or girls. Students may wear ONE thin neck chain, one watch and one ring per hand. Small post earrings may be worn by girls only. Only ONE earring is allowed per ear and the earring may only be worn on the ear lobe. Any personal appearance that constitutes a distraction is NOT permitted!

Important Winter Weather Information

As we are all well aware, winter is upon us and with it comes very unpredictable weather which we have already experienced with our recent snowstorm. In the event that such a storm should occur again, please be sure to tune into KYW 1060 on your radio to hear of any school closings. Our school does NOT have a number; we are closed when it is officially announced that all Philadelphia Public and Archdiocesan schools are closed. The website for KYW is www.kyw1060.com. That is where you will find up to the minute information on school closings.
After the Christmas holiday break, we will be organizing our chain call list. These lists will be given to one parent representative in each grade. These parent reps will begin a chain call in case Holy Spirit should ever experience an early dismissal due to inclement weather. Please be sure to call the school office if any of your emergency contact information should change.

Thank You!

Happy 2010 to everyone! Hope that everyone had a safe and blessed holiday. The faculty, administration and staff of Holy Spirit would like to thank everyone for all of the thoughtful gifts, cards and good wishes received this Christmas season. May 2010 be prosperous, happy and healthy for all!

Letters Regarding Payments

Over the holiday, letters were sent to every family regarding payment issues. Please note that this letter was sent to everyone as an FYI. If there was a delinquency issue regarding tuition, it was noted on the letter. This week, a copy of this letter will be sent as a final notice to any family owing school and lunch fees as well as CARES payments. Please note that anyone with a CARES balance may not be able to use this service. Families delinquent in school and lunch fees may be asked to pick their child up at lunch time.

Weather Alert and Delay of Opening of School

According to the weather forecast, our area is expecting a snowy and messy rush hour tomorrow morning (Friday, January 8.) Please be advised that there is a chance that the opening of school may be delayed. You MUST listen to KYW 1060 newsradio for the announcement of "All Philadelphia Public and Parochilal schools will open 2 hrs. late." This means that school will open at 9:55 instead of 7:55 and the bell will ring at 10:10 instead of 8:10. Regarding school buses, your child's pickup time will adjust by 2 hrs (i.e. if pick up time is 7:40, it will be at 9:40 instead.) School will dismiss at 3pm as usual.
