Practice Tips and Lists

General Practice Rules:
1. Practice in small sections of two to four measures at a time. Repeat those sections until things sound better. Remember, you go faster by going slower!
2. Always start off your practice session with either your warm-up or your scales. Warm-ups should take at least three to five minutes.
3. Review what you play well, but concentrate on what seems difficult and apply step one to those sections.
4. PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT, NOT PERFECT! In other words, if you are practicing a piece incorrectly, then it is likely that it will be permanently wrong. SO, PRACTICE SMART!
5. Figure out which days are best for you to practice and don't let those days pass you by. You should be practicing for a MINIMUM of three days a week. If you want to get better parts or play in the jazz band then I would suggest practicing four to five days a week for thirty minute sessions.
6. Remember, you get out of it, what you put into it!
