What do I do with the math papers that come home each day?

The math pages that come home is a way for me to keep you posted
on what skills we are doing in class. It also lets you know if
the current task was easily grasped or if your child needed
further teaching. I suggest you look over the pages and follow up
when necessary. Once an assessment is given, you can
recycle them.

Are the children expected to read their assessments on their own?

I always encourage the students to give their best effort but I
do read their assessments to the children until Decemeber. Once
the Christmas holiday is over and the children return in the new
year, I stop reading to them. This is about the time you should
see your child become independent.

What are the small booklets in their take home folders that come home weekly?

These books are decodable readers that are associated with that
weeks reading unit. It addresses the skills the children are
learning about in school that specific week. They are a quick and
simple read for children and is great for focussing on
fluency because of the repetative nature. It also uses the
current sight words we are working with. I encourage the children
to read to anyone for practice.

Do the children need to wear their gym shorts under their sweat pants?

No. The children may just wear their sweatpants with no shorts
underneath. Please remember to write your childs name or initials
on their sweatshits and sweatpants.

What services are available to my child if they are struggling?

At ICS we are lucky to have members part time from the Montgomery
County Intermediate Unit. We have a counselor, speech therapist,
and reading specialist. If you notice anything with your child,
please let me know immediately so we can make a plan together to
solve the issue. Early intervention is the key!
