Art Workshop

The New Art Workshop Program

About Art Workshop:

Since 1993, Immaculate Conception’s Art Workshop program has help students discover and develop their drawing and painting skills. Originally a lunchtime activity, AW expanded into a more intense after-school program in 1999.  Paintings and art projects from the program are visible in our school lobby, throughout the school building, in the park outside the building. In 2006, the Art Workshop Program was recognized by Today’s Catholic Teacher magazine with the Innovations in Education Award for the paintings “Images of Mary” and “Christ Our Lord.”

What is new about the program:

This year, AW will be held in a workshop format, offering various courses in the fall, winter and spring. Classes will be held in the school cafeteria on Saturday mornings, over a period of five weeks. The first four weeks are instructional time, with the fifth week reserved for the completion/mounting of projects.

The Material Fee covers the cost of all tools and materials the students will be using in class. The only necessary item is a large tote bag or portfolio to transport work and supplies.

This year AW will be open to younger artists, ages 9 and up. You do not have to be an Immaculate Conception student to participate in Art Workshop classes. All new students are asked to register for the Beginning Drawing I class.  Other course offerings will require some experience, as AW artists build their art skills as well as their artistic knowledge in the form of vocabulary and critiquing skills.
