Please join us for our Fine Arts Presentation on Wednesday
evening, May 23, 2012. The musical and speech presentations will be held in
the church. The cafeteria will be open for viewing the students' artwork and
refreshments.
ART
Our Art classes focus on developing skills, lessons, and activities that meet
and enhance the Common Core State Standards of the academic curriculum.
The hands-on opportunities presented to the students motivate them to become
responsible communicators, collaborators and creative problem-solvers of the
21st century.
Check out our topics we are working on:
KINDERGARTEN: Using the painting style of Georgia O’Keeffe to create a warm
and cool color design for their portfolio.
GRADE 1: Create basic pinch pots using color and designs of Greek Art to add
interest to their pot
GRADE 2: Create basic pinch pots to illustrate their understanding of the
Elements and Principles of Art.
GRADE 3: Discover the famous Pop artist, Wayne Thiebald to design a sketch for
their portfolio.
GRADE 4: Demonstrate/learn about various printing and collage making skills to
create artwork inspired by Henri Rousseau.
GRADE 5: Sharpen their observation skills while creating blind contour
drawings and self-portraits in the style of Rembrandt van Rijn on paper and clay.
GRADE 6: Identify some illustrators and works of the 19th and 20th Century
English Book Illustrators through their artwork.
GRADE 7: Illustrate the following in their artwork: Who is Claude Monet? What
is Impressionism? What are tints? What is a color plan?
GRADE 8: Explore a new genre of art through a study of Katsushika Hokusai and
36 Views of Mount Fuji.

TECHNOLOGY
The goal of our computer classes is for the students to communicate and
collaborate in our 21st century world and to provide problem and project based
learning activities using Technology as a tool in all their academic subject
areas.
Internet security is always our main focus of discussion in all grades with
each activity. Keyboarding skills are constantly monitored by the students and
teacher together to promote speed and accuracy.
Some of our work will include the following activities:
KINDERGARTEN: Identify/type letters and numbers in MS Word while creating and
identifying various icons and tools in MS Word. We are also using online
sources to practice keyboarding while identifying upper and lower case
letters. Identify 2-D and 3-D shapes using various tools in MS Word and MS
Paint while working on the Smart Board.
GRADE 1: Type and format(spell check and grammar) a descriptive of a creative
piece of art in MS Word to practice keyboarding skills. Each student will
learn to insert a photograph of their artwork as well as print the finished
document in color. They are also using the web-based program Wordle to review
their spelling words while typing them in sentences
GRADE 2: Use the proper techniques for keyboarding to identify and type their
weekly spelling words. They will use the web-based program Wordle to review
their spelling words while typing them in sentences. Students are
experiencing the need of safety on the Internet through a research project on
Sea World's website. They are gathering facts and pictures to create a
slideshow in MS Power Point.
GRADE 3: Identify tools needed and create a simple spreadsheet and graph of
M&M’s project.
GRADE 4: Create and compose a customized postcard from their "trip" to the
Amazon River. The students are also preparing a final presentation using
Power Point on a famous Pennsylvanian.
GRADE 5: Demonstrate the use of the skills as directed in National Educational
Technology Standards to create an informative Power Point presentation
exploring various sections of the United States and individual states for
Social Studies. We are also exploring the Art and Music of
Mexico to present in a Power Point presentation. We will use Google Earth to
locate many of the Mexican venues discussed.
GRADE 6: Following the National Educational Technology Standards, demonstrate
a basic understanding of bar, line and circle graphs to chart the results of
the best buy on ticket admissions to a favorite amusement park. Students will
work on various type of presentations to share their findings with their
classmates. As a final assessment, each student will create a postcard to
share online to illustrate the knowledge gained from this project.
GRADE 7: Using various online, textbook, and other reference books, research
the three branches of the United States government. The students will create
an informative and professional brochure on a branch of the United States
government assigned in Social Studies class.
We also read and discuss various online news articles relating to staying
safe with all types of technology. Our current discussion is about "Social
Scams" and :Is your PC infected?"
GRADE 8: To reinforce a workshop presented by the FBI, students will create a
"Facebook" page using a template in MS Word as an historical figure from the
19th and 20th century.
They are creating a presentation using MS Photo Story on Water Usage in our
homes . . .
1) Explore, identify and compare/contrast water usage in their homes
2) Create spreadsheet/formulas with appropriate charts
illustrate the accumulating cost of those items
3) Summarize in a Smart Board presentation conclusions, data,
and fun facts about water in our life?
We also read and discuss various online news articles relating to staying
safe with all types of technology. Our current discussion is Addicted To
Apps? Four Things To Know Before You Download and "Protecting Your Privacy on
Social Media Networks.
