A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF ALL P.E. CRITERIA IS DISCUSSED WITH STUDENTS EARLY IN THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH FREQUENT REMINDERS THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF EACH TRIMESTER.

Students' grades will be posted in grade book at the end of each trimester. Running scores cannot be calculated because the grading rubrics for P.E. are not numerically based. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

The following rubric represents the report card grading criteria for P.E. grades 4 through 8.

The following rubric is used over the course of the trimester to assess students' performance in games and activities. These criteria are key in obtaining trimester grades.

SPORTSMANSHIP - Student plays fairly treating teammates and opponents respectfully; student responds respectfully and positively toward teacher who oversees the activity.

COOPERATION - Student works cooperatively with teammates; student follows rules and regulations as directed.

EFFORT - Student perseveres and puts forth consistent effort when participating in activities.

PARTICIPATION - Student is an attentive and active participant in activity.

LISTENING - Student listens attentively during class. Student follows directions.

Students also receive an overall grade each trimester for their adherence to or performance in each of the following criteria.

PREPAREDNESS

1. Goes to assigned spot when directed.

2. Quiets and begins as directed.

3. Wears required uniform including sneakers that are properly secured.

RESPECT

1. Listens to persons in authority.

2. Listens to and follows directions.

3. Accepts responsibility for behavior.

4. Uses appropriate language.

5. Treats other students respectfully.

6. Exhibits good sportsmanship.

7. Is tolerant and encouraging.

8. Respects other students' "Space".

9. Uses equipment as instructed.

10.Includes other students.

PARTICIPATION

1. Shows continued effort toward group and/or individual goals even when previous attempts proved unsuccessful.

2. Participates in all activities.

SKILLS

1. Displays an understanding of game rules and is able to apply them.

2. Performs appropriate skills according to age development.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Does not chew gum, eat candy, etc. during gym class.

2. Does not leave gym without permission.

3. Does not engage in dangerous, outlawed activities.

4. Does not use equipment in a manner that may cause harm to self or others.
