Spring has sprung! We have been very busy preparing our classroom for Spring. We had a wonderful Easter celebration. We watercolored Easter eggs and painted baby chicks. We had a great time at our Easter Egg Hunt. We even sang many Easter songs like "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" and " The Bunny Poky." We loved wearing bunny ears and shaking our eggs full of beans to our music. Our hallway has been transformed for Spring. We have a beautiful garden full of flowers. The ducks have arrived carrying their umbrellas for April Showers! We learned some great spring songs like "I Have a Little Seed" where the children use a scarf balled up as a seed and as they pop up the scarf opens to reveal the flowers bloom.
Best of all to celebrate spring and new life we had caterpillars delivered to our classroom. We watched them grow from little tiny caterpillars to big fat caterpillars. They then crawled to the top of the jar and made their cocoon. Magic is happening inside and we are anxiously awaiting our butterflies! We have been dancing like butterflies with our scarves all around our classroom. We made egg carton caterpillars and hand print butterflies to decorate our classroom. Of course we read
The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Look forward to our new arrivals soon!
Also to celebrate spring we have been talking about plants. We read
Round the Garden
and
Up, Down, and Around
. We may have been doing a little secret gardening too! Since Earth Day arrived we read,
No Place Like Earth,
and made recycled art by cutting magazines and gluing onto scrap paper. Great way to practice cutting skills!
In Religion we have been talking about dancing and singing and our feelings. We discussed how it is OK to be sad and angry but we use our words to tell others how we feel. We shared what makes us happy and sad. It was a very sweet moment.
There has been a lot of construction going on around school as they are fixing the roof. I could not let that opportunity get away, so we have been talking about construction, We looked at all our construction vehicles and read
Big Joe's Trailer Truck
and
The Busy Building Book
. We sang " The Wheels on the Truck Go Round and Round."
Coming up: Insects and Numbers!
