Does my child have homework?
Students are expected to study spelling words for their test on
Friday. Reading books will normally be sent home on Monday and
Wednesday to re-read the stories of the week. Other assignments
may be given and written in agenda or I will tell the students
during the day. This mainly will be unfinished work that we
started in class. Please have your child
read anything fun for 10 min. each day, along with practicing
math facts (addition and subtraction facts to 20).
When is Gym so that my child is dressed appropriately?
Gym is on _____________. Students are to have tennis shoes and
girls be sure to wear shorts or pants on Gym days.
If there is a concern or question, how can I reach the teacher?
Feel free to write a note in your child's agenda, call the
school, or in a situation that can not wait until school, you may
call me at home. I'm here to help in any way that I can!
What is going on with the Thanksgiving Play that 2nd grade performs?
Second graders perform a Thanksgiving Play before Thanksgiving
Break. Students will practice during school hours but they may
need help practicing their parts at home as well. Check the
calendar for the specific date of the play.
When certain projects come home, can I help my child?
We strongly encourage parental help with projects that will be
sent home. Please be sure your child has his/her important input
and direction in the projects.
What is Guided Reading?
Guided Reading groups the students into their own individual
reading levels so that they will not be frustrated with too hard
or too easy reading and writing materials.
What will my child need to bring to school each day?
Your child will be expected to bring their agenda, reading book,
any assigned homework to school each day.
What is the folder that comes home on Mondays?
To help with the organization of family life, I've used a folder
to come home only once a week for most of your child's papers.
These are papers that may be graded or done during class, their
spelling book with their graded test and other information from
the office. This helps the parents find important
papers and notes instead of misc. papers that might come home
each day only to get lost or misplaced. Parents really like the
system and so do I. Send the folder and spelling book back each
Tuesday (or Wed. if Monday is a holiday). We use the folder each
week throughout the year.
Can I send in a birthday treat?
You may send in a treat for your child's birthday if you would
like. Please send in something that is easy to distribute. Most
of the time we will eat the treat at lunch time. We plan a
special birthday party for those who have summer birthdays so
that the children don't feel left out.
What happens if my child misses school?
If your child is absent for a day or two, they are usually able
to make up the work once they return. If you know your child
will be out longer than two days, please call the school and
request homework assignments to be sent home with a sibling,
friend or you may pick up the work at the office.
What if our family wants to take a trip during the school year?
You must have prior approval from our district. Forms are
available from the office.
Can we pass out birthday invitations at school?
No invitations are to be passed out at school unless the entire
class is invited. This is to avoid hurt feelings if certain
students are not invited to the party. Please respect this
school policy.
