Social Studies

The Second Grade has a  Social Studies period once a week. This is not a graded subject but the students are expected to participate and compete all assignments that are given. The work will count towards the Effort and Behavior grades on the Second Grade Report Card.

The students will work on different areas of study such as Communities, Maps, Goods and Services, Holidays, and Important People from History. Each area will extend the students' knowledge about the world around them.

I am also excited because we will be participating in a Post Card exchange with other classes from across the United States this year. We will write postcards out giving facts about our state of Pennsylvania. We will mail our postcards out to classes in all 50 states! We will then receive postcards from the other states and learn different facts about each state and where it is located in the United States. We will be able to identify the different regions of the United States and the different geographical features of each region. We will also work on our research skills, our writing skills, and our mapping skills while working on this project. This is sure to be a fun and engaging learning experience for your child.
