These are prayers the Second Grade will be expected to learn this year. Each child will take an oral test on these prayers over the course of the year. Our faith is an important part of lives and by learning these prayers the children will come to have a better relationship with God.
**Just a note: The prayers are NOT in the order the students will learn them.**
***Students will need a rosary to keep in their desk***
Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
1. Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen
2. Glory Be: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
3. Prayer to the Holy Spirit:
Come, Holy Spirit, Fill the hearts of your faithful, And kindle in them the fire of your love. Amen.
4. Guardian Angel: Angel of God, my Guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
5. Act of Contrition
O my God,
I am sorry for all my sins. In Choosing to do wrong and failing to do good.
I have sinned against you, whom I should love above all things
I firmly resolve to do penance, to sin no more and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Amen.
6. Our Father:
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen.
7. Hail Mary:
Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with you; Blessed are you among women, And blessed is the fruit of your whom, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
8. Morning Offering
God, Our Father I offer you
today, all I think and do and say.
I offer it with what was done on
Earth by Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen.
9. An Act of Faith O My God, I firmly believe that You art one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; I believe that Your Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because You have revealed them, who can't deceive nor be deceived.
10. An Act of Hope O My God, relying on Your almightly power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Your grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
11. The Apostles' Creed. I Believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
12. Act of Love
| |
O my God, I love you above all things with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of those whom I have injured. Amen.

13. GRACE AFTER MEALS
We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty God, Who livest and reignest forever, and may the Souls of the faithful departed, Through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
14. The Rosary

15. THE HAIL HOLY QUEEN [SALVE REGINA]
HAIL, holy Queen, Mother of mercy. Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
