The Mike Shaw Committee needs you!!

It’s “Shaw” time again and we would appreciate your help in even the smallest of ways! For those of you who do not know what The Mike Shaw Classic Tournament is, here is a brief description:

Our major CYO fundraiser is the Annual Mike Shaw Classic Basketball Tournament that will be held in the OLPH Parish Center from February 12th- 22nd. This tournament is named after a CYO volunteer who died at a very young age of cancer. What started out as a 4-team tournament, has grown into a 64-team tournament, known affectionately as “The Shaw”. It is comprised of girls and boys in 5th & 6th and 7th & 8th grade . It is a 10-day tournament with a wonderful reputation, and it is fun place for our kids to spend time socializing and watching some good basketball!

Even the smallest task in any of the following areas is tremendously helpful. If you can help with any of the following, please respond to me by email at with your name and cell phone number. It is a WONDERFUL tournament that allows us to charge only $20 per athlete to play a sport (as opposed to other programs that charge well over $100 per sport!).Thank you SOOOOO much! This event is always a success thanks to our awesome parents who volunteer their time!

Door Prize Committee

o Are you able to provide a door prize? Do you have a connection? (game tickets, sports items, gift card, or gift basket)?

o Could you help us wrap gift baskets?

o New ideas always welcome!

Kitchen Committee

o Do you work from home or are you an at-home mom/dad? Could you do a quick BJs run during the day to replenish any kitchen items we may need? (this is incredibly helpful)

o Can you help to coordinate the kitchen coverage? Each day a different basketball team’s parents are assigned to work the tournament.

o Can you stay after school for a ½ hour to assist in setting up the kitchen so we are ready for our volunteers who start at 5:00 p.m. (get the food in crock pots, etc.)

Can you place an ad in our ad book? Forms attached. The kids LOVE ads placed by family members with a “shout out”… and a full page ad ($100) will get you a 3ft. x 3ft. banner in the gym for the tournament!!! You can solicit businesses, or advertise for your own business! Remember this book will reach almost 500 households since there will be 64 teams!! Ads are due by FRIDAY, JANUARY 30TH AND SHOULD BE SENT ELECTRONICALLY TO KRIS REAGAN AT Your payment and/or paper copy of your ad can be sent to Grace Reagan 5th grade, room 6. Electronic ads preferred and PLEASE don’t wait till the last minute to send your ads in. The sooner the better!! Click here for Ad Letter and Sponsor Form

We will be holding two special events this year to promote our bookfair.

Each participant will be asked to create a poster advertising our school book fair which runs from sun 1/25 until friday 1-30. The poster can be any size or shape thst the participant chooses. The winners will receive their prize at the bookfair. one winner will be chosen from each of the following groups- prek and k, 1-3, 4-6, and 7-8. All posters must be turned in to teachers by friday 1/16 so that they can be hung in the school the week before the book fair.

We will be participating in the All For Books program this year. All of the money that we raise for this program before and during our bookfair will go toward books for our school. In addition for every dollar that we raise scholastic will donate one book to children in need. In order to help with this we will have a classroom coin drive. there will be a jar in each class for coins. whichever classroom brings in the most coins by the start of the fair on 1/25 will win a prize for their classroom.
