In-Class Assignments: April 1 - May 30, 2012
ALL CLASSES - Keyboarding
Students from all sections will embark on a three to four week unit lesson with built in review of the Home Row and its reaches or partner keys. Key reaches will cover the Upper and Lower Row from the Home Row position for each of the ten finger placements.
Students will practice in both Ultrakey and straight keyboarding in an editor with teacher led instruction.
Timings will be taken both in Ultrakey for Speed/Accuracy and with an editor, learning how to calculate WPM using Word Count and a Calculator.
Keyboard Test and Calculated Typing Tests will be taken for Grading. Typing Observation will also be conducted for Position, Hand Placement, and Eye Focus.

GRADE 5:
Endangered Species Presentations -
Students will present their Endangered Species Presentation to their class. Public Speaking skills are stressed along with eye contact and clear voice. Knowledge of Subject is examined through question and answering session from the teacher and student peers.
Jelly Bean Prayer - Students will key into an file the prayer. Students will use a variety of font/style and import graphics. One class period project. Students print for display and grade.
Complaint Business Letter - Students will create a Block Business Letter using their ideas from a concept map created in Kidspiration on complaints with products in the past. Business Letter format of Block Styling is introduced. Students create a 75 to 150 word letter. Spell Check and Print both good copy and concept map for Grading.
Tanka Poetry - Students come to class with rough draft. Student will create a one slide Powerpoint. Students will explore Word Art, and copy/paste of Graphic images to match their writing. Resizing graphic images and Format Background are explored.
GRADE 6:
Confirmation Letter to Pastor - Students create a friendly letter formatted letter to their pastor asking to receive Confirmation. Students will write four paragraphs: 1st - tell about themselves, their family and their background with the parish. 2nd - Ask for Confirmation, tell why their ready, their age, maturity, prayer life. The 3rd paragraph - explain how they plan to prepare to receive the Sacrament with community service to others, celebrations, preparations in class, service at both home & school. The 4th paragraph - Explain how after Confirmation will they continue to be active? Life Teen, Altar Servers, choir, etc... and what their personal affect will be.
Lenten Prep - Students will create a word document with nested table. Areas of concentration: Stop, Give Thanks, Forgive, Abstain, Charity, Pray, Faith. Student will list their personal sacrifices and way toward Easter. Students will insert a graphic image of each e area. One Page for printing, resizing of graphics and text wrapping "in front of text".
GRADE 7:
Sports Injury Chart - students will create online research using

www.sportsinjuryclinic.net
Student will use Keyword searching techniques: Google "MDADVICE LIBRARY SPORTS" to locate Health Library online.
Students will created a word document with nested table that they will use in Science presentation in class.
Students will Identify 7 or more injuries, List their Symptom(s) or Affected area, List their Remedy(s)
Students will learn R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and learn about acronyms and writing. Students must define an acronyms at least once in their writing before using it multiple times throughout a document. Students will learn how to Format Shading a cell, Choose Bold for Headings, Text Wrapping "in front of text" for graphics. Print and Save for Grade.
GRADE 8:
Spreadsheet Review - Students will create a graph using EXCEL on the U.S. High Temperatures for a week.
Students will create new spreadsheet. Review the parts of a spreadsheet, cell, column, row, makeup of a cell a combination of a column/row = A1. Explain alpha numeric values. Students select pertinent data or part of the spreadsheet to create the graph. Students label X and Y Axis, insert a legend and Chart Title.
Days of Week and Temperature in Fahrenheit
Students utilize data from

and gather results for one week on 5 cities of their choice. Stress U.S. and that varying areas of the country desired for range of temps. One week project.
GRADE 7 & 8:
KhanAcademy - Students will watch a video on the creation and thought process of
www.khanacademy.org
displayed on 60 minutes overtime. Students will go to the site and choose a math concept and watch the videos associated with the concept. Students will note as a math resource in their technology book list of websites to keep.
Comics in Education - Students will begin an adventure into the world of Web 2.0 and online comic creation at
www.pixton.com
for Schools
. Students will create their login under Mrs. Knezo's moderated community. Students will design their usercode Avatar and work through Lessons each week that cover the basic of the application, such as character creator, 3 panel and 6 panel length projects. Internet Safety and Responsible digital citizenship will be a focus of Lesson # 2 and 3. Lesson # 4 will be a final project to create a 2 character study with contrasting results. Students may choose the 6 frame length using 3 panels per character study. Students will choose to create the same background and scene for both studeies with a differing reaction in the final frame.
