POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT CLASSROOM PLAN

A. Philosophy
I believe that all children have the right to learn in a safe environment that is encouraging, welcoming, engaging, and fun. When children
become part of a classroom family, they are able to take risks, try new things, and develop good work habits that will last a lifetime. I believe
that when parents and teachers work together, we can provide a wonderful learning experience for children.

B. On Creating a Caring Classroom and Positive Learning Environment
I create a positive learning environment in my classroom by creating a theme in our room that is of high interest to my students. I connect
learning, fun, and building a classroom community to this theme by taking part in highly motivating games and activities. We will hold
classroom meetings on a daily basis to develop a positive structure to solve problems and create a caring classroom environment. Our class will
hold “mini me museums” at our desks on a regular basis to get to know one another on a deeper and richer level as well as discover new ideas
for writing time. Our class has developed a set of rules that we feel will keep us safe and will allow us to enjoy learning in our classroom.

Our Classroom Rules
1. We are kind and respectful of others.
2. We raise our hand to talk or share.
3. We listen to and follow all directions.
In addition to our classroom rules, we practice and support our school rules, I- Care Rules, lunchroom rules, hallway rules, and recess rules

C. On Positive Reinforcements and Recognition of pro-social behavior
a. Whole Class
positive verbal praise, classroom links to earn a special event, stickers, red and green card tally system, positive notes homes, awards, and
positive phone calls home
b. Individual
fishbowl with names for special drawings, positive verbal praise, notes and phone calls home, stickers,
Explanation of procedures:
LINKS: I hang large plastic links from the top of the chalkboard to represent a positive visual reminder of each behavior I want to encourage my
students to continue. Individuals can also earn a link for our class. When the link chain reaches the floor we will celebrate with a special event.
FISHBOWL: Children can earn a small piece of paper (a ticket) for following our classroom rules. When I see a positive thing happening I make an
announcement and tell everyone the great thing that just happened and that child or group of children put their name on a ticket, place it the
fishbowl and throughout the week we have surprise drawing for small prizes. (prizes may include, but are not limited to, erasers, “fun” pencils,
or other school supplies.)
RED/GREEN CARD TALLY: Red and green cards are placed next to each classroom rule. A tally mark is placed on the green card each time the
class shows they follow that rule. If the class is not following the rule a tally mark is placed on the red card. Throughout the day this is used as a
visual reminder for children. If the day has more “green tallies” than red ones the class will earn a classroom link.

D.  Consequences

a.Whole Class

b. Individual
