Welcome to Multiage at Penn London Elementary School!
On a professional note... As far back as I can remember, I have
always wanted to work with
children. It all started with my first experience as a camp counselor in
training. Impressed by the
counselors I was assigned to work under, I loved the idea of singing each
morning, exploring nature,
helping with crafts- all of it! Each counselor was either an early childhood
or an elementary
education major in college. I knew at that moment in ninth grade that I was
going to be a teacher.
My high school years started me on this career path as well. I was a
Girl Scout leader’s assistant
and took part in childhood development program courses offered by my high
school. We planned
lessons, took part in theory classes, and worked in our on site preschool
three days a week. We were
afforded the opportunity to teach and to observe each other working with our
students. It was a
wonderful experience.
Onward to college… I attended Lock Haven University and was
offered the opportunity to
student teach in Frankfurt, Germany. This experience was an amazing time for
me to grow as an
individual and as a beginning teacher. I graduated college in December and
became a substitute
teacher in the Norristown Area School District. I loved the experience of
teaching different grade
levels, learning new discipline techniques, seeing a variety of classroom
setups, as well as different
formats for lesson plans, it was all very helpful.
I have been teaching with the Avon Grove School District for the past 20
years. I have taught 5th, 6th, K, 1st, and 2nd grades and currently teach a
multiage class. My all time favorite ages to work with are first and second
graders. I am so fortunate
that I have the opportunity to work with little ones each and every day to
make learning to read, write
and explore math, a fun and challenging experience for children. I have been
taking classes over the
summer and am excited to put new techniques and ideas into full swing this
year.
On a personal note...
My family resides in New London Township and we love living in the Avon
Grove community. My
husband, Scott is a 5th grade teacher at Unionville Elementary. We have two
children, Kaitlyn is 16
and is a junior at Avon Grove High School and Scott is 14 and a freshman in
the Avon Grove High School. Our family enjoyed spending time with family and
friends over the summer. This
summer we went on fun vacations to Bermuda and the Outer Banks in North
Carolina.Kaite and I went to San Diego with our Girl Scout Troop and had a
wonderful experience. As a family we love spending time at the beach and
enjoy trying new restaurants. Our kittens, Bella
and Lily are growing quickly and are a lot of fun.
I look forward to getting to know each of my students and am excited about
our new learning
adventures together this year!
