Daily Schedule

General Daily Schedule
Edie Jacobs,  AM Kindergarten

8:10 -8:30	Students Arrive
	Students are responsible for morning jobs:  unpack their purple take-
home folders, hang up their name card on the number strip for attendance 
purposes, answer “question of the day” or count items in the ”counting 
jar”.  

8:30-9:00	Calendar, Attendance, & Math concepts
	Students participate in the following routines:  taking attendance, 
counting how many students are present, creating and comparing 
an “attendance stick”, stating the month, day of the week, date, weather and 
current season, and adding a day to our “number of days in school” number 
chart.  Also, new math concepts will be introduced during this whole group 
time.

9:00-9:10	Whole group Language Arts instruction (handwriting/Kid 
Writing)
	At this time, students are engaged in a Language Arts activity.  It 
may be working on Handwriting without Tears, or working on pictures for 
their Kid Writing stories.  

9:10-9:40	Special Class per schedule below:
	Day 1 – Healthy habits			Day 5 – Creative Movement 
	Day 2 – none	                        Day 6 – Gym		
	Day 3 – Music	                        Day 7 – Library	
	Day 4 – none

9:40-10:00	Whole group instruction / Kid Writing and Story
	At this time, students are engaged in one or more of the following 
activities:  phonemic awareness activity, shared reading, shared writing.
		Story – Students will attend to, predict, respond, and 
answer retelling/comprehension questions about the daily story.

10:00-11:00	Small group center rotation / Kid Writing
	During this time student will split into 3 or 4 small groups and 
perform different learning activities at 3 or 4 different tables.  Each 
activity will be an extension of subject material that we are working on 
(guided reading, alphabet and letter recognition, sounds of letters, 
responding to writing prompts, Hand writing Without Tars instruction, math 
manipulative exploration, fine muscle develop through art projects and 
cutting, etc.)

	One table activity will be teacher directed, one table will be 
directed by an aide or parent volunteer, one table will be an independent 
activity, and one table will be free choice (they will choose from given 
choices, areas of the room to play cooperatively and explore (dramatic play 
area, math manipulatives, math investigations games, fine muscle activity, 
book corner, etc.)

11:00 – 11:10	Pack up folders and school bags.  Follow-up questions, 
feedback, and a look ahead to tomorrow.  Recess or song, if time permits.
