Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Does my child have Reading homework each night?
Yes! Please read for approx. 15 minutes each night with your child. He/she may not feel comfortable reading to you just yet, but please encourage him/her to find easy sight words or sound out unknown words with you! We will participate in the Pizza Hut Book It! program from October thru March. If your child reads at least one book per night, and logs the title on his/her Reading Record Sheet, he/she will be eligible for a FREE PIZZA courtesy of Pizza Hut!Back to Top
What suggestions do you have for working on vocabulary or sight words at home?
1. Have your child write the words on the cards. This way he/she is internalizing the words in another way than just using them as a visual. 2. Only work with a ring of about 20-25 words at a time. Too many words can be overwhelming for you both! Each time he/she correctly identifies a word, put some kind of symbol on the back signifying his/her success! When he/she has reached 5-7 symbols (you can determine the amount together), he/she can remove the card and add a new one! 3. He/she can use the ring anywhere! Read it in the car, at the dentist, or while you are waiting at a restaurant! He can also internalize the words by writing them in shaving cream, salt, or sugarusing silly string in the tub spelling them out with Alphabits cereal or gummy lettersand, most importantly, have him/her find the words he/she knows while reading stories together at night!Back to Top
