4th Grade Problems:
Locker Overload; Tennis, Anyone?; Ticket Trouble
5th Grade Problems:
Smart Money; How Many Coins?
Due Date:
5/30/08
The problems for the month math packets come from the book Problem of the
Week.
The children will be using their critical, creative, and logical thinking
skills to solve each month's packet of problems. The children are
encouraged to use the four-step problem solving method taught to them in
class. The method they choose to use to solve the problems is up to them,
but they are encouraged to select strategies that are effective and
efficient.
Each month the children must also prepare one write-up on the problem of
their choice. The emphasis here is on the ability to communicate about
their thinking. Through this monthly practice, the children will become more
aware of their thought processes and more adept at explaining them to others.
Parental help is allowed, however, I encourage the children to seek help
from me during resource room time, if possible. In this way I get a better
understanding of what each child is capable of.
