Fifth grade students are expected to have homework four nights each week. Assignments are selected to reinforce concepts presented in class and should be completed independently. Homework consists of a weekly Language Arts homework packet and a nightly reading calendar called READING COUNTS. A Math Study Links workbook page will be assigned each night. Additional Science and Social Studies homework will be assigned as needed. Please check your child's Agenda each night to check assignments. Language Arts and Spelling homework assignments will be handed out in a weekly packet each Friday to be returned on or the following Thursday. If a child does not return the packet on Thursday, he/she will stay in at recess to complete the work. Students are also required to read for 20 minutes each night as part of their regular homework assignment. Please initial the Reading Counts calendar that is the front cover of your child's weekly Language Arts homework packet. When a student has read for 100 days, he/she will receive a reward. Each marking period, students will also be required to complete a book report at home on an assigned book. I have found this program to be a successful way to encourage students to read daily, thus fostering the development of reading skills and a love of reading.
