Mission For The Class

One of Mrs. Ray's goals for her fifth grade students are for them to
become self-responsible students who take ownership over their learning.
She hopes to encourage and motivate all individuals, giving them the
self-confidence to recognize and improve upon their skills. Mrs. Ray
hopes to see each child put their best effort forth at all times.

Philosophy Statement written by Nicole B. Ray:

My personal philosophy on teaching is based on love. To be a teacher you
must love children and love to teach. With that being the basis for
teaching, the principles consist of preparing a child for their future. It
is the responsibility of the teacher to provide their students with the
necessary skills for life. Through teaching these skills, a teacher should
instill self-confidence by leading a student to experience many small
successes.

I am a lead teacher who believes that a child can best thrive in a student-
centered classroom that is well structured and run with a firm but loving
hand. The classroom rules and consequences should be reasonable and clear.
The students should have a lucid understanding of these, as well as all
classroom procedures and routines.

My philosophy on classroom management consists of placing self-dignity
first, where respect is given and expected in return. I believe that it is
highly important to improve misbehavior while honoring the student as a
human being. The key to positive classroom management is the prevention of
discipline problems. A work place with identified procedures and daily
routines must be created. Students must be taught to cooperate with others
while taking responsibility for their own actions. Conflict resolution
techniques need to be practiced to teach life long resolving skills.
Learning can not take place unless the classroom is well managed.

As a teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure success on an individual
basis, promote self-confidence, fully motivate, and help each student to act
responsibly while gaining a useful education. I feel that I am accountable
for presenting the material in an interesting fashion in which the student
can easily relate. Knowing that each child learns differently and at their
own pace, I will consider the various learning styles and adapt the lesson
accordingly. In addition, the students should understand that fair is not
giving every child the same, but what each child needs.

As a professional I conduct myself in an appropriate manner, showing a sense
of pride for my occupation and respect for those I work with. I strive to
improve myself, both professionally and personally. It is crucial for me to
remain dedicated to my field, as a learner, seeking to learn new methods,
techniques, strategies, and programs. I need to continue my education
through graduate courses, seminars, and workshops, which will aid me in
improving my skills within the classroom.

I have a love for teaching, which is necessary. I put the child first,
considering all of their needs. I will not do for children what they can do
themselves. It is my goal to be a positive influence on each child I
encounter, instilling within them self-confidence and the power to succeed
in life.
