When are Read and Responds due?
Every Friday except the first Friday of every month. On the first Friday of every month I will assign a special book report. For example, it may be a Book Talk, Book in a Bag, etc.Back to Top
How can I help my child with their Read and Respond?
Have them orally discuss their response before they begin writing. This helps them to organize their thoughts. Encourge them to use the sentence starters in thier journal (This story makes me think of.., I wish..., If I could change...).Back to Top
How much should I help them with their Read and Respond?
Second and third graders should be able to do this at an independent level. When they are finished writing, I would have them call the C.O.P.S which encourages them to check their writing for capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling. They can write C.O.P.S down the side of their paper and cross off each letter as they check their work. For my first graders, I do not mind if they copy a dictated sentence from an adult into their journals.Back to Top
What if my child does not have a book on their level?
They can always borrow a book from our class library.Back to Top
What should I do if my child forgets their homework?
Create an assignment for them to do that night. I just want to see that they took responsibility for their work and practiced their spelling words in some way. If they forgot their spelling list, the words will be listed on the website each week. They just have to remember what color list they have.Back to Top
When do Sign and Returns come home?
