February & March – Wittenburg Project:

The Wittenberg Project is a bold, new venture to share the Good News of Jesus and plant a Lutheran congregation in Wittenberg, Germany. Only about 13 percent of the 50,000-some population claims to be Christian. LCMS World Mission, LCMS World Relief and Human Care, Concordia Publishing House, and the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (SELK), an LCMS partner church body, are collaborating on this unique opportunity.

A building has been purchased. The four-story frame building, built in 1564 and vacant for the last 15 years, sits near many historic sites—next to St. Mary's Protestant Church, where Luther often preached, and about a half-mile from the Castle Church, where he posted his 95 Theses attacking the sale of indulgences and that helped launch the Reformation.

Once renovated, the building will serve as a ministry center with a Lutheran bookstore, welcome center, human-care office, and chapel that will serve Wittenbergers and tourists alike. By God's grace, a Word and Sacrament ministry will be established among the people of Wittenberg by the SELK, the LCMS partner church in Germany.
