NAME: Mrs. Diane Olmstead SCHOOL: Redeemer Lutheran CLASS: Preschool Teacher - 3yr and 4 year old classes SCHOOL PHONE: 412-828-9323 ABOUT THE TEACHER: I am teaching the 3 year old and and 4 year old preschool classes here at Redeemer. I have been with the preschool since September 1994, first as a preschool assistant and now as a teacher. I received my BSN from Carlow College and then returned later in life to Butler County Community College and received my Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Presently I am taking classes at Chatham College and working toward a Masters in Early Childhood Education. My family consists of my husband,Don, and our three children: Scott, age 22; Matt, age 19, and Emily, soon to be 18! Scott graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in May 2009 and this fall will be attending the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Matt will be a sophomore at Edinboro University and plans to pursue a career in Art. Matt is now a 3rd degree black belt in TaeKwonDo. Emily will be a senior at Knoch High School and has begun the process of applying to colleges. She stays busy doing school work and working as a dietary aide at Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She loves to go shopping with friends and is a very fast texter! We are active members at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot, a sister LCMS congregation to Redeemer. All of my children graduated from St. Luke School and we love Lutheran schools! In our quiet times my family enjoys reading good books or trying to find a good movie we all can enjoy! This summer Emily and I were blessed by our return to Saltillo, Mexico. Once again we joined Can-Do Missions, affiliated with Concordia University-Austin, in a week of service to one of the Lutheran churches there. We spent the week at the Iglesia Filadelfia with Pastor Marco Antonio. This year we painted and spent time with the people of Saltillo. We made witness bracelets and went on prayer walks in the neighborhood. Of course the most fun is always Vacation Bible School. One was held at the church and one was held about 15 minutes away, at the home of one of the parishoners. The class at the church started with about 7 children but by the last day there were about 25. The neighborhood home was amazing. Flyers were passed out inviting the children to VBS the day before and when we arrived there were 80 smiling faces waiting for us! By the end of the week the number had more than doubled. Envision all these children in a small space in front of a little woman's home and spilling out into the street. A truly remarkable sight and one I shall always cherish. It is a great reminder that we do not need expensive or flashy items to share God's love with others. We just need to go and God will do the rest! MISSION FOR THE CLASS: The mission for the class is for children to learn and grow, sharing God's love through their words and actions.
