When are Spelling tests?
Usually every Friday.
How is my child doing?
Every day your child's green vinyl folder will come home so you can view
your child's checked work. One side is marked KEEP and one side is marked RETURN.
Please return daily. Your child also has a folder marked TESTS TO BE SIGNED.
The test folders usually come home on Mondays. Please sign the tests and
return the following day.
Also, you may look at your child's grades on Gradebook
via the internet.
What are the vocabulary words?
Each story we read has vocabulary words. Please have your child practice
the words daily with your child in their vocabulary notebook. Sign the bottom
of the page of each list and make sure your child returns their vocabulary notebook
each Friday of the same week. I will test your child on these words each Friday.
I will mark those words your child successfully reads to me. The next story's words
will be added and you will do the above again. I also will have the vocabulary words
available on my web page.
What does my child wear for Gym?
The children may come to school wearing their gym uniforms.
The gym unifrom is a SPS tee shirt and green gym shorts.
They may wear their sneakers all day on Gym days.
After October 1 through April 30, the children may wear
their green SPS sweatpants and green SPS sweatshirt with
their SPS tee shirt underneath their gym sweatsuit all day.
Again, they may wear sneakers all day on Gym days.
From May 1 until the end of the year we will revert back to the
start of the year gym uniform practices.
How does my child earn a dress down day/jeans day?
If a child abides by all of the uniform regulations for the month,
including Gym day, then they are rewarded by Sr. Geri a
dress down/jeans day the last school day of the month.
No notice will go home each month. It is the child's responsibility
to know this. A verbal reminder will be given from me before dismissal.
What is a Test Folder?
Usually every Monday a folder with your child's corrected tests inside
are sent home for you to view. Please sign them and return the
following day. If your child receives a 100% on any test I will display
them in the hall. Those tests will be included in their
test folder the following week for you to view.
What is for lunch?
Each month a lunch menu is sent home in the parent brown envelope.
Please keep it at home for your use.
Who keeps the lunch tickets?
Please keep your child's lunch tickets at home.
When your child wants to buy lunch, please have your child
write their name on the back of the ticket and bring it to school.
There is a tray available marked with Regular,Alternate,PBJ, and Salad.
Your child will deposit their ticket in the tray for their lunch choice.
What are the Spelling words for the week?
Your child will have a Spelling notebook and the words will be added into their notebook two times on Monday in school.
Each Monday they will bring home their Spelling notebook. Their homework will be to write their Spelling words two more times at home.
Your child should return their Spelling notebook to school by Thursday for me to check.
Please make a copy of these words for home practice.
I also will have the words available on my web page weekly.
What are Holey Cards?
After the children are introduced to the addition and subtraction facts to 9,
the children will be given a timed test on the addition facts to 9.
A copy of the Holey card comes home to you so you can make copies and
practice at home. There will be 46 problems.
The children will have 4 minutes to complete the 46 problems. Please practice these daily.
This will not start until the second nine weeks.
During the third nine weeks we will work on the subtraction facts.
A copy of the Holey Card will come home so copies can be made to practice at home.
The students will have 4 minutes to complete the 46 problems.
During the last nine weeks, when we have mastered all the addition and subtraction facts,
the children will be given 10 minutes to complete 100 addition problems. A copy of the complete addition Holey Card
as well as the subtraction Holey Card will come home for copies to be made and practiced at home.
Make certain addition practice begins first at home. When a child completes 100 addition problems in 8 minutes, they
will try to complete 100 subtraction problems in 10 minutes as well.
The children who complete 100 addition and 100 subtraction problems in 8 minutes
will not have to do Holey Cards for the remainder of the year.
That is a goal...go for it!
How do we celebrate birthdays in 1A?
We will follow the school's policy on birthdays. Please send in
a small treat to share with the 1A class. PLEASE NO CAKES OR
