Look for the YELLOW paper in the book bag. 
Call the school office if you need help.

      Wednesday, September 28th will be the last day to register for basketball.

             Please send your registration forms to the school office, 

  to the attention of Mary Aiello. 

    If you need a form they are available on the school website,    

   under the athletics tab.

6.  Mandated Reporter Training...Send the copy of the certificate to the school office.

People can take the MRT online and the link is on the Diocese Website under Protection of Children and Youth.

 from 5:00 - 7:00PM, during fall sports pictures.

Peewee soccer starts tomorrow, Saturday, September 10th from 9-10:00 AM  at St. Paul's Seminary, 2900 Noblestown Road

                     PeeWee plays in the lower field near the pavilion, but please don't park in the lot closest to the field. Please park in the lot by O'Conner Hall.

Students are invited to bring a canned goods for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Because the teacher is not feeling well,

There will be no PreK orientation on Friday, Sept. 2

Class begins on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 8:15 AM.

 Parents may visit the classroom at that time.


3 year old orientation is Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 PM. 

Preschool  1st day is Thursday, September 8.

Welcome to the launch of the 2016-17 

St. Philip School Year

Some points to remember:

Students will come to the courtyard to meet the teachers and enter the building at 7:30AM

At that same time parishioners will be coming for 8:00 AM Mass on 

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Tuesday and Thursday

Mass is at the Ascension Worship Site.


The late bell is  7:50 AM

It is a good habit to be on time.

You are welcome to come to the Cafe' for refreshments at 7:30 AM.

NEWS from SPS Revised 2B

The first day of school will be here before you know it and there are many new and exciting things happening this year at St. Philip! I’m happy to give you an overview of some of the changes.

Faculty Updates

We wish Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Ehmann and Mr. Dan Miller the best in their new endeavors as they departures from St. Philip School.

Miss Catherine Rogers will be teaching  2B.

Mrs. Wilfert be teaching  4A.

The third grade will have one classroom this year and we welcome Mrs. Anne Peterson, who did a long term substitution at SPS, as our new 3rd Grade teacher.

We are happy to have Mr. Andrew Kraus as our new music and band teacher this year.

The faculty is currently preparing for the school year and will update the school supplies list so students are prepared. Please check the school website for updated teacher webpages, teacher emails and new faculty bios!

As many of you know, Mrs. Gilles has retired this year and we are so grateful for her many years of service to our school!

Mrs. Suzy Ruskin is our new school secretary, a former library director. Please welcome her as you call into the office or stop by the school!

Facility Improvements

We are excited to announce that our STEAM Lab is almost complete and will be up and running very soon. The lab will hold our library of technology items but will also serve as an “idea” forum for interactive learning.

The STEAM Lab, as well as the Library, will have new air conditioning units this year.

New blinds have been installed in all classrooms and will hopefully help cool the rooms as well as provide shade for Smartboard use. Blinds have also been installed on the classroom doors for security purposes.

New carpet has been installed in many classrooms.

We thank St. Philip Parish for the newly paved parking lots.

Please check Option C for classroom assignments. If you do not have a password, please call the office and Mrs. Ruskin, new secretary, will be happy to forward you the information.

New St. Philip Families

We understand that there is always a learning curve when entering a new school. As a new family, you will be assigned a Parent Partner. If you feel that you need assistance right away, please call the office and we can help direct you!

SPS is almost ready for the new school year, but not yet.

1.  See the revision of faculty and staff on Option C...keep watching
2.  Several rooms have new rugs from the Centennial Funds
3. Since the Grades 3,4,5 Girls bath room had water damage by a girl plugging up a sink
on purpose, we had to repair bathrooms and several areas to the tune of over $5,000.
(Thank God it was covered by insurance).  
Our 1st School Rule is:
4.  Our new STEAM ROOM is almost complete with the use of Centennial Funds
(It was the Wireless Lab). 
5.  Every window and classroom door in K-8 have new blinds with the Centennial Funds.
6.  Several families have received a grant from the  Centennial Compassion Fund.
7.  More news later as we enjoy our 2nd Century of glory.
We are grateful for the PAST,  PRESENT, and  FUTURE of
Catholic Education for our YOUTH who are our future leaders.

Monday August 22 is the first day of school for grades 1-8

  • Saturday August 27 is the St. Philip Church BBQ in the courtyard begins at 5 PM
  • Monday August 29 from 6:30 - 8:30 is the SPS Family Information Fair. Representatives from the PTG, SPAA, Faith Formation (formerly Religious Education) and School Extracurricular activities will be there to provide information, answer questions and offer volunteer opportunities to families for everything occurring in the upcoming school year.
  • Monday September 19 is K-8 Meet the Teachers Night from 6:30 - 8:30.


Congratulations to the SPS JV soccer team

 on an outstanding season!

The team advanced to the Diocesan semifinals in the top division this past Saturday
after defeating St. Alphonsus 2-0 in the quarterfinals last week.
Although they came up short in the semifinal game against Allison Park United,
the kids’ effort and performance in that game was something
those in attendance will not soon forget.

The way the kids played and handled themselves with class in defeat
represented what SPS is all about—

they made all of us proud.


Congratulations to the SPS JV soccer team on their 2-0 Diocesan quarterfinal victory earlier today over perennial power St. Alphonsus!  The kids played incredibly well and incredibly hard, and made SPS proud.  The JV team now advances to the Diocesan semifinals this Saturday, June 11th, at LaRoche College in the North Hills (address is 9000 Babcock Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15237) at 10:30 a.m.  The team would love to see a strong SPS showing of support this Saturday.  Please come out and show your SPS pride!
