Chapter 13 – Add and Subtract 3-Digit Numbers

The following concepts will be covered (not necessarily in this order): Addition patterns using hundreds Add 3-digit numbers with and without regrouping Estimate by rounding to the nearest hundred to check your answer (for three digit addtion and subtraction) Differentiate between the main ideas and details in a story problem Make a graph as a way to solve word problems Subtraction patterns using hundreds Subtract 3-digit numbers with and without regrouping Add and subtract dollare and cent money amounts

It is very important that the children practice math facts to 12 or even 20. That means learning all addition and subtraction facts with answers up to 12 or 20 by heart. This will make the addition that we work on in this chapter much easier. if your child is using fingers to count out simple addition facts to 12, they will struggle with the current chapter. Use flash cards and make a game of it. I sent home some ideas for you and have many more if you need them. Just ask! I am here to help you to work together with your child at home. Your support of our lessons helps to reinforce the concepts. Thank you! Remember to study facts for addition and subtraction with your child as often as you can!
