Language Arts - Unit 6

The following skills will be covered in this sixth unit of the year.

Phonics: Review digraphs ph, tch, ch, long a, e, i, o, soft c, g
Reading: Comprehension: Review main idea & form generalizations Vocabulary: Introduce multiple-meaning words & figurative language. Study Skills: Library/media center Grammar (English): Adjectives Using a and an Adjectives that compare Adverbs Synonyms and antonyms Writing a story Sentence rules: All sentences must have: 1. a subject 2. a predicate 3. punctuation 4. a capital letter at the beginning 5. spaces between the words. Handwriting: Introduce cursive forms of upper and lower case letters (Zaner Bloser style) Review manuscript (printed) letters
We will be reading the following stories in this reading unit: Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathman Tomas and the Library Lady by Pat Mora Princess Pooh by Kathleen M. Muldoon Swimmy by Leo Lionni "The World’s Plants Are in Danger” from Time for Kids magazine
