Our field trip to Harrisburg is scheduled for Monday, May 11. We will leave
school at 8:00AM and return at 5:00PM. I hope you will be able to join us!
If your child is struggling with the math maintenance, please note the kinds
of problems he/she continually gets incorrect. Every night you can make up
a similar problem and try to have him/her solve it. Also, please use
multiplication flash cards for 5-10 minutes everyday if your child doesn't
know his times tables.
In reading, I wanted to let you know that many of my 4th graders have had a
difficult time in the reading tests for the last two years that we have used
the new reading series. In the lower grades, the children learn how to
read. When they reach 4th grade, they now learn many reading skills, such
as critcal thinking, inferencing, etc. For some reason, some children have
a harder time trying to learn these skills. Please be patient with them, as
most students will greatly improve slowly but surely.
When you sign the homework assignment book, you are saying to me, "I have
checked my child's homework and it is completed."
When your child is absent, I will send home all assignments. The work does
not have to be completed by the next day. The longer the child's absence,
the more time I give for the assignments to be done. I do not send home
assignments before a child goes on vacation. Again, your child will receive
all assignments after he/she returns, and the work is expected to be
completed in a timely fashion.
I usually stay after school everyday until 4PM. If you need to talk with
me, just send a note or call the office. If I don't have an appointment, I
will be happy to meet with you. My email address at school is: mc@sh-
school.org if you are unable to come to school. Please send a note to let
me know to check my email.
