*If anyone is interested in a committee please let us know. HASA is very
excited this year and we need as much help as possible.*
Chris reviewed the HASA Mission Statement: To bring home and school
together to provide a forum that will foster a means of communication for its
members. To provide faculty, parents and children the resources needed for a
parish school to thrive educationally and spiritually: to share a common goal
for the benefit of our children.
We want very much to have parent involvement and welcome an open and
ongoing rapport. Stressed need for open communication. There is an e-mail on
the webpage on left side. This link goes to Chris’s home e-mail.
Sharon spoke about the assistance of Room Parents this year. There will be two
for the first floor classes and one for the upper floor. The first assembly
was announced – October 14th - The Power of One, at 9:15 & 10:15 . The cost is
$749. The Power of One is a series of skits presented by actors who use boxes,
colors, and masks to vividly portray what bullying is, what can be done about
it, and how every child has the power of one, the power to report bullying
when they see it. Parents are invited to attend – times will be posted on the
website. We ask that any parents that attend be respectful and maintain the
same level of quietness that is expected of the children.
Ann reviewed the Treasury Report and reminded those in attendance of ways to
earn cash for Sacred Heart. We are still collecting: - Ink jet cartridges &
cell phones, - Redner tapes – remember we do not get credit for this unless
you present a Save-a-Tape card at the time of checkout and send this receipt
on to the school. Ann has these cards if you need them. Just deposited $193. -
Acme tapes – these must be the blue tape receipts -
Campbells Soup Labels – We do not earn money we earn points that can be
redeemed for art supplies, gym supplies, maps etc. Turned in 2900 points. We
have dedicated label cutters and counters - Thanks! These points can be found
on anything Pepperidge Farm, Swanson Broth, Select Harvest (5pts). Chunky Soup
Labels, and V-8 caps not labels Progresso soup is not part of the program.
This will be posted on the website. If interested in helping please contact
Pat Jones. -
Nora Keating spoke about the Boxtops – Oct. 31st is the final collection.
Class contest going on now. The cutoff date is Oct. 16th. We do get cash for
the Boxtops. All of this is posted on the website. - Giant/ Martins card needs
to be renewed each year, This can be done on the Giant/ Martins website. The
link is listed on the HASA website. This runs from October 5th until March
13th. HASA has 500 points worth of A+ points coupons that are worth !0 points
for each visit that you spend over $15 on. Anyone that shops at Martins can
get these from Ann Glaude - Target card: School get a percentage of every $
spent - Coke Rewards – We do not get cash. We can cash in points for paper,
books, athletic equipment, etc. - Pat’s Pizza -
Karen Hill spoke on Market Day – We have been very successful with this. The
Supplemental to Market Day kicked off at the beginning of school this year and
has been extended until Friday October 9. Sacred Heart receives $2000 plus
additional 1% profit for meeting certain criteria. Our goal is set for $4000
to be eligible for free shipping. Currently, as of October 5th we are at
$2700. We have until October 14th to place orders online. Tax does apply to
orders placed on-line. No sales tax on order sheet orders. Anyone that
collected sales tax on these orders will be receiving a refund. - Margaret
mentioned the Office Depot cash cause. School will receive 5% for all
qualifying purchases. Just input # for school at time of purchase. All
information is on the website under Easy Cash for SHS
The Kathleen McCabe Scholarship: Guidelines were presented by Margaret The
information is online under the HASA website. Goal is to choose an applicant
for the 2009/2010 school year. At the end of the school year, we would like to
choose another recipient for the 2010/2011 school year as well.
There is a Teacher’s Closet this year: This was set up for the teachers to
show our appreciation for there efforts. We hope to stock the closet with
everyday school items that the teachers can have for a quick grab. This was
made possible by the generosity of the parents at Sacred Heart. Let HASA know
what else we can supply. HASA would also like to have a donation bag at some
school events for any optional items to donate to the Teacher’s Closet.
The voting ballot was discussed: Items for vote were; the time of the HASA
meetings, Whether to have Secret Santa Shop, and the choice of the spring
Assembly. The results showed: - attendees were satisfied with a meeting time
of 6:30pm - Secret Santa Shop was a ‘NO’ for this year - The assembly choice
was the - World of Robots A Question and Answer period with Mr. Brunner
followed the HASA updates (These questions came in via e-mail through the HASA
website). -
Playground equipment was discussed - Past experience had determined that the
liability insurance was too costly. Also, Assumption BVM had given not so
positive feedback about their playground and had some vandalism problems. Nora
Keating mentioned that grants may be available for the playground. Mr. Brunner
reminded group that initial cost is only part of the picture. Upkeep and
maintenance is a concern as well. Sacred Heart is willing to investigate pros
and cons. Need to figure out costs (including cost of building, liability
insurance and maintenance costs) to determine feasibility. Any help in this
area is most welcome. Mr. Brunner thanked Mr. and Mrs. Nudy for the basketball
nets. - Walmart status – They are coming! We don’t know when they will break
ground. As soon as we know, we will communicate the facts. -
HASA is working on the School Zone signs. Beth VanWort started this last year;
signs are costly and Sacred Heart School would bear this cost not the state.
Information will be communicated as we find out more.
The role of the Advisory Board was discussed - have had 2nd meeting. Group is
still feeling its way. The Development Committee will be absorbed into the
Advisory Board. The board is concentrating on PR – working on student
recruitment, How to establish endowment committee and how to get our name out
in the public.
A Smart board demonstration was presented by students Mary Williams, Hannah
Cummiskey, Victoria Calibey, with the support of Mrs. Clark. Wow, what fun!
The students showed how they worked alongside students at St. Pat’s to write
and correct reports. Work can be corrected on the board, work can be
highlighted or answers can be written in manually on the worksheets presented
on the board. Thanks to the school community for the generosity that helped to
provide this technology.
Last minute items: -Check out the Updated website. Let us know if you are
having any problem. -Halloween parade October 29th: gather at 6:15 , parade
starts at 7pm and lasts about 1 ½ hours.
Jen Tipton mentioned that the school uniform changes to Winter dress on
November 1st. Uniforms will be placed out in the hall. The side door is always
open until 4pm. This will be posted on the website. There are a lot of boy
pants and small girl jumpers.
