This is a page for those things that don't fall into the other categories.
Directions to Dek Star (from St. B):
- Head north on Washington Road to McFarland Road.
- Turn left on McFarland Road and drive down Banksville Road to the Parkway (I-279).
- Head north on 279 over the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges. After about 10 miles, take the Camp Horne Road exit (Exit 15).
- Keep right at the fork at the end of the exit, and merge onto Camp Horne Road. Once on Camp Horne Road, move into the left lane.
- After about 2/10 of a mile, two left-turn lanes will begin. Move into the leftmost turning lane and make the left turn at the light onto Mt. Nebo road.
- Drive straight at the next light past the shopping mall entrance and continue for about 3/4 of a mile on Mt. Nebo Road.
- The entrance to Dek Star is on the left side, but may be difficult to see. Try looking for the “stadium” type light fixtures on the left. Make the sharp left at the entrance and go down the short, steep hill to the gravel parking lot. If you find yourself at the intersection of Mt. Nebo Road and Arndt Road, you’ve gone too far and will need to turn around.
Measurement PowerPoint Study Helper:
Click on the link below to download the measuring PowerPoint presentation containing the 24 measuring challenges presented in class (along with that annoying cash register sound). After you unzip the file, when you start it up, a message box may show up, checking to see if you want to enable macros for the program. Go ahead and click "enable macros." The macro is in the presentation to allow you to randomly scramble the slides. To use the macro, in the menu go to "tools," then "macros" and click "run". After the slides are randomly mixed, go to slide one, select it, and then start the show.
An answer key has now also been added so students can compare their answers to the expected ones. Just click the 2nd link for that key, which is a MS Word document.
Measuring PowerPoint Study Program:
CD Text Installation Info
- The 2 installation codes to try for the CD's are 2369-1259-3850 or 2400-1284-3084.
- Remember, for computers with multiple CD drives, use the drive that appears first alphabetically.
- For those not seeing the Table-of-Contents/Pages "toolbar" on the left side of the textbook, try the following (under the supervision of a parent or other responsible adult-type person):
- Go to Tools --- internet options, and click on the "delete cookies" and "delete files" to clear out cookies and the file cache.
- Look underneath the address bar near the top of the page for a thin yellow bar that has a warning about allowing blocked content (or something of that nature). You'll need to click on that bar and select "allow blocked content" to be able to access the CD text
- We've had at least one disk not work apparently due to too many fingerprints on it. If your CD-drive is having trouble finding the CD, try gently cleaning the surface by breathing on it and wiping with a clean, soft cloth.
- If all else fails, call 1-800-2345TEC, and the tech support people at Prentice Hall should be able to provide you with some assistance. In my experience, they have answered promptly and actually been pretty good at finding solutions
Percent Challenge Program
Mr. Nelson's math students who are looking for a little extra practice at recognizing and converting among common fractions, decimals, and percentages can download the "Percent Challenge" PowerPoint by clicking on the link below.
Important: When the program loads, you may be asked if you want to "enable macros." Click the "Enable Macros" button if you want to be able to scramble the slides so that they appear in different orders. To randomly (well, semi-randomly) change the slide order, select "tools" from the top menu in PowerPoint, then select "macro" and "macros..." Clicking at this point should bring up a window titled "macro." Click on the "Run" key to mix the slide order.
There are 54 slides total, but in class we usually on try the first 20 that appear. However, if you play at home, you can do the whole set every time if you think you're up for it. ☺
