WELCOME TO MRS. STAN'S SEVENTH GRADE CLASS!

This will prove to be an exciting year filled with new ideas, field trips, and challenges. I can't wait to introduce you to a new found love of learning as you rise to the challenge of becoming the role models of our school.

Summer Reading for Incoming 7th Graders: Please choose THREE books from the Reading Olympic Reading List. For each book that you read you should complete the following on loose-leaf.

A. Create a PLOT DIAGRAM
     MUST INCLUDE:

     1. Title & Author
     2. Exposition: introduce main character(s),
inciting incident, setting
     3. Rising Action: ALL the major events
leading up to climax
     4. Climax
     5. Falling Action
     6. Resolution
     7. My Opinion and WHY (give specific examples to support your opinion)

B. Write a short summary: LIMIT: 10 to 12 sentences (like you are writing a book cover synopsis)

* MUST include your NAME (first/last) on all story element reports. THIS WILL BE GRADED and is DUE the FIRST DAY of School!

Math for Incoming 7th Graders:

Here are a list of Math topics and skills you should have BEFORE entering 7th grade. We do not cover these topics, but you need to use these skills that you learned in lower grades in order to be successful in 7th grade. So if you are a little unsure of any of these areas, you may want to practice over the summer with online games, etc.

* Rounding numbers
* All multiplication facts memorized
* Reducing fractions
* Order of Operations
* + - x ÷ fractions & mixed numbers
* Switching between improper fractions & mixed numbers

* Substitute numbers for variables in a formula and solve (like area, etc.)

Here are a list of Math topics and skills you should have BEFORE entering 7th grade. We do not cover these topics, but you need to use these skills that you learned in lower grades in order to be successful in 7th grade. * Order of Operations
* Reading points on a coordinate plane
* Plotting points on a coordinate plane
* Five questions for solving equations
* Explain steps in solving equations
* Switching between improper fractions & mixed numbers
* Switching between fraction & decimal form
* How to raise a number to a power
* Simplify and evaluate algebraic expressions
