This year, the Nickels for Neighbors campaign, became
Catholic School Students for Catholic Charities. Instead of sponsoring a Tag Day to collect money for this Catholic Charities Appeal, students were being asked to collect loose change and bring it to school the week of (April 16 – April 20). The funds collected by our school and other Catholic schools will be used exclusively to support the diocesan schools of Special Education (Archbishop Ryan, Our Lady of Confidence, St, Katherine Day and St. Lucy).
This is a student to student campaign. Thank you for your
generosity!
Important Request Information
It is school policy not to accept requests for particular teachers for the new school year. We ask that you trust the professional judgment of the teachers and the principal in placing your child for the upcoming year. We take into consideration numerous factors to find the best placement for all students. In their school experience, students will be exposed to a number of different teachers for instructional purposes. It is our hope that each teacher will motivate the child in her own special way.
Congratulations to those who participated in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-A-Thon. Over
$10,000. 00 was raised by SPN students.
Thank you for your participation!
Terra Nova /Peace Week
The week of March 5th was also Peace Week. After lunch, there were many afternoon activities that promoted our Peaceful Schools Initiative.
The students brought in rocks and painted them in art class. They were used to create a peace garden.
Each child brought in quarter ($.25) to contribute towards the items needed to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a service project that week for the St. Francis Inn. The students got together with their prayer partners to make the sandwiches.
The week ended as we dance the afternoon away with our prayer partners in the gym to the sounds of a DJ.
First in Math Program
First in Math - Our school has purchased a great math program for grades 1-5. We explored this program in school, and the kids are ready to use it at home! This program is a fun way to strengthen math skills and build math fluency. The students each have their individual username and password on a membership card stapled in their homework assignment books. The students can earn points for completed activities. They can track their progress and compete to become the Player of the Day.
Hopefully, they have gone on the site and have earned some points for practicing Math facts. This site provides great reinforcement for basic facts. I strongly encourage you to have your child use the site at least a few times
a week.
As a Christmas service project, our class wrote notes to a soldier stationed in Afghanistan and to Aja's grandmom who is currently working in Afghanistan as well.
The notes were beautifully done and I know they will be very much appreciated when they are received.
Please continue to use Think Central to review for weekly reading tests.
